Kubernetes Architecture
When you deploy Kubernetes, you get a cluster.
A cluster has 4 main components :
- Kubernetes MASTER : also called a Control Plane (Master): manages global state and scheduling
- WORKER nodes: run actual application workloads
- Networking
- Storage: persist data
Every cluster has at least one worker node.
1. Kubernetes Master (Control Pane)
- All commands to K8 cluster go to the master (say from cmd line tool like kubectl)
- Master is a collection of process that manages the global cluster state and scheduling. The node where these processes run is called the master.
- Mostly in cloud environments , master is a managed service and least important
- Fault Tolerance in Master
Master’s components
- kube-apiserver
- etcd
- kube-scheduler
- kube-controller-manager
- cloud-controller-manager
