Elastic Load Balancer
- Forward traffic to downstream Ec2 instances
- Single point of access (DNS) to your application
- Provide SSL termination (Https)
- Enforce session stickiness with cookies
- High availability across zones
- Enables Health checks on EC2 instances
- Separate public traffic from private traffic??
- Can setup as internal (private) or external (public) ELBs
Elastic Load Balancer is a managed load balancer: AWS guarantees uptime, upgrades, maintenance
- It will cost less to setup on your own but it will be a lot more effort
- Services ELBs are Integrated with :
- EC2
- EC2 auto scaling groups
- Amazon ECS
- AWS Certificate Manager (ACM)
- Cloud watch
- Route 53
- AWS WAF
- AWS Global Accelerator
Target Groups
- Target groups are just a group of Ec2 instances and TG are attached to an ELB
- Target groups enable Load balancing to multiple EC2 instances. ELB -> TG - > Group of Instances
- However, it does not allow auto scaling
- It also allows to load balance to multiple applications on the same machine( ex containers, ECS)???
